Plenary Session:  Practicum Overview

10:15 a.m. Breakout Sessions (Repeated in the afternoon)
  1. Coaching through Process Consultation
    (Required for non-ABCS Coaches)

This session will support coaches in establishing a helping relationship with school leaders. Participants will engage in conversations and activities about (1) the ORJI (Observation-Reaction-Judgment-Intervention) cycle, (2) the principles of process consultation, and (3) facilitating task process and problem solving in groups.

  1. Understanding Michigan Department of Education Resources (a.m. only)

This session will orient coaches to resources available through MDE, including the new Merit Exam, content expectations, MEAP, school improvement planning and Education Yes!

  1. Creating Collaborative Teams

This session will support coaches in establishing collaborative teams. Participants will engage in conversations and activities about (1) developing a consensus decision-making model, (2)  using tools and protocols that promote collaboration, and (3) further sharpening coaching dialogue skills.

  1. Giving Effective Feedback

This session will help coaches provide effective feedback to school leaders. Specifically, this session will focus on (1) how to create and deliver a specific message based on observed performance, (2) how to describe a specific behavior and its impact, and (3) how to be clear about both the observed behavior and its impact.
